God promised to bless them on their travels and fulfill His purpose through them.
Abraham and Sarah trusted God’s guidance and left everything they knew, setting out on a journey that would change the course of history. However, despite their trust in God, they faced a deep sorrow — they had no children. This lack of offspring weighed heavily on them, but God comforted them with a promise: they would have a child.
As Abraham prayed and sought a deeper understanding of God, God visited him and revealed Himself as “Yahweh.” In this encounter, God made a powerful covenant with Abraham. He promised that Abraham would not only be blessed but would also be a blessing to all nations. Through Abraham’s descendants, all families on earth would receive God’s blessing.
This promise was further solidified when God promised Abraham the priesthood, a sacred role passed down through generations. God’s covenant with Abraham was a pivotal moment in history, marking the beginning of a divine plan that would unfold through Abraham’s family and impact the entire world.

Eventually, they left Egypt and returned to Canaan with the provisions they had gained, as well as livestock. Canaan was the land that God had promised them, and it would become the foundation of the blessings He had in store for their descendants. Abraham’s faith in God’s promises never wavered, and it was here that he met Melchizedek, a righteous king and priest. Abraham honored Melchizedek by offering a tithe, acknowledging his role as a servant of God.
Through this encounter, Abraham received the priesthood, a sacred calling that connected him to the divine covenants of earlier prophets, such as Adam and Noah. This marked another step in the fulfillment of God’s promises to Abraham.
Though Abraham and Sarah still struggled with the uncertainty of not having children, they continued to trust God’s plan. They held firm to the belief that their family would grow and become the source of blessings to all nations, just as God had promised.
